When facing physical and mental health challenges, it’s easy to become confused and overwhelmed by the healthcare system. We can each be our own advocate by educating ourselves and asking lots of questions, but it is often more manageable to enlist the help of others. A family member or service provider can track information, ask questions of doctors, research diagnoses, schedule appointments, complete insurance forms, and assist with medication. They can also offer support to the patient with reporting information to healthcare professionals and by speaking up on their behalf.
