Mobility International USA (MIUSA) empowers people with disabilities worldwide to achieve their human rights. MIUSA is a disability-led non-profit organization headquartered in Eugene, Oregon.
Representatives Megan Patrignelli and Justin Harford came to a recent CAC meeting to share their mission and programs.
MIUSA was co-founded in 1981 by Susan Sygall and Barbara Williams. While studying in Australia, Susan noticed that people with disabilities weren’t studying abroad.
Through international exchange and development, MIUSA supports people with all kinds of disabilities to access education, recreation, employment and to become leaders around the world.
MIUSA teaches college and high school study-abroad and volunteer programs how to accommodate students with disabilities so they can participate.
Their Summer Preparatory Workshop hosts youth with disabilities from other countries to study in the US.
Once a year, in their WILD program (Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability), MIUSA hosts women from other countries to teach them about inclusion and disability rights in the United States. The women visit sites highlighting leadership and examples of accessibility in education, employment, housing, and recreation.
Their international development projects support disability rights movements around the world to change the way people with disabilities are treated.
Director Susan Sygall explains more in this video, Introduction to Lives Without Limits
