Here’s what we, the members of the CAC, look forward to during the holidays
- Spending time with family
- Eating lots of good food
- Singing carols
- Driving around to look at all the lights on houses – especially the big ones
- Christmas movies
- Just getting through it
- People being extra nice to each other. This should be all year!
- Parties
- Lighting Hanukkah candles
Our Thoughts on Making the Holidays More Manageable
- Try to plan ahead so you don’t do too much There are so many opportunities to socialize and do other fun activities. Choose your favorites and let the other things go
- Ask yourself, “How much energy do I have? How long will it take me to recover from this activity?”
- Take care of yourself so you don’t burn out
- Think about your safety. You might want to stay home when more people could be drinking and driving like on New Year’s Eve
- When you’re going to a party, think ahead about things to pack for your sensory needs like headphones
- If you’re going to dress up, dress comfortably
- In a gathering, find a safe place to take a break
- Don’t overdo it! Think about how you’ll feel later if you eat or drink too much
- If you live alone, seek out people to spent time with
- Do what you’re able to do. Don’t let others talk you into something that’s not your choice
- If the holidays are a sad or hard time for you, take time for yourself. It’s perfectly OK not to be cheerful and happy just because it’s the holidays
Make sure to love on your animals during the holidays and all year!
